Staging has become one of the latest trends. With so many homes on the market, sellers are finding that staging a home and/or getting a home ready to sell are things that have to be done in today's market. Recently, I took a Monday off to be Tim (or "Tam") from Home Improvement.
Mondays are usually the busiest day of the week with playing catch up on everything from the weekend and planning o
ut the week's schedule of activities. This Monday, I didn't have anything to pressing and decided that I was going to get things done around the house. Specifically, in the backyard. We're hoping to sell our home next year and of course, I know that in today's market everything needs to be perfect. So, I have my to do list of projects before we're able to sell which should take us about a year to accomplish... hopefully.

Recently, we removed this HUGE silver maple tree that was in our backyard. If you know anything about silver maples, their roots tend to be close to the surface of the ground. So this 35 year old tree with it's tons of surface roots was truly making the backyard a place that we couldn't use anymore. The kids would trip over the roots and we've gone through a couple of lawnmowers because of our wonderful tree. Anyway, paid some good money to get it removed and here's the leftovers, to which we need to distribute around the perennial gardens.
I showed these pictures side by side so that you could see the before and after pictures of my bushes on the back lot line. I decided on this warm day that this line of plants needed to be trimmed and cleaned up. So here I go with my "hedgehog" chainsaw thing, plug in the electrical cords and start hacking away. The picture really doesn't show you how badly I terrorized my bushes (the one in the middle looks really good... that was the last one I did).
So, I'm trimming (I mean, hacking) these bushes and actually having a great time with the process. There was something powerful in using those big tools. I was kind of like Tim on Home Improvement. Not knowing what I'm doing but trying to look like I do.
I got done with the process and here were some of my thoughts.
1) What am I going to tell my husband?
2) I probably should have done real estate today.
3) These bushes will grow back, right?
4) At least, I got it done!
O.K., so being the optimist that I am, what were the positive things about doing this project?
1) These bushes will grow back, right?
2) My arms were killing me, so they must have gotten a good workout.
3) It was hot and I had to be losing some weight or at least getting tan.
Moral of the story: Do work on Monday and have someone else do the other stuff. You might have better results (or I probably would have :))
